A few communities can be hit with strong wind gusts and hail.Īccording to the United States Drought Monitor, the entire state of California is in moderate drought or worse. Along with drenching rain, thunderstorms are also in store for some locations of Southern California. The large storm system will bring areas of stiff winds that can contribute to problems for motorists and especially for operators of trucks, trailers and buses. The worst travel conditions across Southern California will be on Monday, including both the morning and the evening commutes. Even outside of heavy rain, the wet roads may lead to travel disruptions. While the rain is certainly needed and beneficial, downpours can raise the risk of flooding and debris flows in areas recently burned by wildfires. In nearby Burbank, California, Bob Hope Airport recorded a high of 89, breaking the previous daily record for March 23 of 88 degrees from 1953. Los Angeles International Airport recorded a high of 84 F on Wednesday, tying the daily record last set in 2008. Record highs have been tied or broken across much of the state this week and the hot, dry weather has only worsened drought conditions. "A storm tracking eastward across the Pacific Ocean will likely arrive along the shores of Central California on Sunday evening and bring a swath of much-needed moisture," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Alyssa Smithmyer. With spring underway and the end of the rainy season in sight, AccuWeather forecasters say there is some good news on the way following the recent stretch of record-breaking warmth and dry weather. The first three months of 2022 have not been what the doctor ordered when it comes to easing drought concerns in California, particularly following a very wet December that resulted in a surplus amount of rain and snow in the Golden State.
